Todd Haynes
Born in Encino, California, Todd Haynes graduated in Art and Semiotics from the University of Brown University. He co-founded the AIDS media activist collective Gran Fury and has always worn his homosexuality on his sleeve.
Haynes's short film Superstar: The Karen Carpenter Story which he made in 1987, brought him considerable notoriety after the Carpenter estate moved to get it taken out of circulation. Since then, he has made a series of edgy and controversial films, most notably Poison (1991).
His muse is Julianne Moore.
