[ book tip by Mohamed Bary ] Magic has always been a child's fascination. A diversion from reality that we found only acceptable in fairy tales or fiction books. Although entertaining readers, magic books have never given us the sense of reality and solemnity that makes us peruse every word avidly, to compare the fascinating world with our own. Such attitudes have been delicately handled in the Harry potter book series.
Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows is the seventh and final book of the Harry Potter series. J.K Rowling shows mastery in setting the plot, grasping teenagers' interest, and above all showing a realistic setting to the world of magic, where there are rules, guidelines and coherence behind the world of fantasy. Yet, I cannot help but believe that Harry Potter is deprived of the true value that literature is meant to provide. Despite the acknowledged success, Harry Potter doesn't have a penetrating theme, a moral, or a lesson to provide. Indeed, this may explain the series' huge success and the reason why the books attracted non-readers, for reading Harry Potter is more like watching an adventure or reading a bedtime story. The reader is deprived of all the challenges that make you want to struggle through the book, challenge your senses, deepen your understanding, explore your fantasies, induce an emotional catharsis. Seen in this light, it is easy to understand why Harry Potter has grasped the attention of those non-readers. But is it then plausible to call Harry Potter an ingenious work of children's literature? You be the judge.

[ 24.02.08 - 22:11 ] [ comment by Tom Reershemius ] I don't know about you guys, but I love Harry Potter. And the Deathly Hallows is a superb finish to the series. I like the action and the humor, but I don't like the traveling around, camping, etcetera.
