[ book tip by Michael Boyle ] Twelve Tenets of the book:
.) Value for money, not just cheap goods for the Bottom of the Pyramid (BOP)
.) Innovation requires hybrid solutions, not just western technology/methods
.) Solutions must be scaleable/transportable. Otherwise, they are limited solutions
.) Innovation based on resource conservation (west loves trash)
.) Functionality (not presentation) is king
.) Process innovation is as important as product innovation (e.g. logistic structure missing in many countries)
.) De-skilling work is critical. We need to break down tasks to basics (e.g. eye surgery perfromed by nurses speciaially trained for task)
.) Education of customers has to be part of the process. Don't forget the lack of media at the BOP.
.) Products must work in hostile environments (e.g. One Laptop per Child)
.) Due to hetrogeneral framework, the interface is critical
.) Distribution is key
.) Product evolution for the BOP can be rapid.
