[ book tip by Lilijana Resnik ] The diplomat introduces himself as a writer. In the coexistence of literature and diplomacy the novel is born. While it promises the examination of the world of high diplomacy it's a rarity in Slovenian literature, which makes readers prick up their ears. But the story goes beyond that. The every day life of diplomacy is veiled somehow. This story drawn from the life of diplomacy tends to be the story about the diplomacy of life itself. We can experience it through the feeling of the main character. The language is at first objective, but the facts withdraw from objective to personal. The images of the characters are also vague. They are living their lives, but they are not intended to be at our disposal. So the novel works mainly on its existencial level. It is a little bit Sartrerian in that way. Is it possible, the main character asks himself, that he could be happier, if he lived as a local editor somewhere? Maybe then he wouldn't feel so lonely as he wouldn't live his life at all. That self questioning is like a cup of magical potion, which shows the readers that the real happiness lies where our childhood is. There we can find our own child in us. But, why is that so hard to reach?
