I'm a very eclectic reader. I read fast but often won't remember a book for long after I have read it. Old favourites I read again and again, certain favourites for certain moods. For me comfort reading is as important as comfort eating! I particularly enjoy classic literature from the eighteenth century and late-nineteenth / early twentieth centuries. Voltaire, Jonathon Swift, Henry James and John Galsworthy would be but four examples. I also read a lot of art and museum essays and monographs. Modern literature is an area I need to explore more thoroughly, and soon.

I studied history at university; I work in museums; I spend a lot of my time at exhibitions or plays, and like to thoroughly dissect them afterwards; I particularly annoy my friends by complaining when films are not historically accurate; I like singing, eating soup, and drinking wine.
