[ a könyvtippet írta Agnes Rapai ] György Spiró: Captivity (Ágnes Rapai’s book tip translated by Károly Nyéki)
If you make acquaintance with Uri, the protagonist of Captivity you'll go a mucker, because this weak eyed Jewish boy enchants you, and you hit the road, join the wandering from his hometown, Rome to Jerusalem. You are forced by a nearly blind young man to time travel diving into the Roman Empire. You can look into the emperor's bedroom, follow court intrigues, brutal killings. You enjoy lavish feasts, but you also share the hunger and misery of the protagonist. Your travel guide takes you very close to the peasants of Palestine living in poverty, and later, to Alexandria’s intellectual richness, prosperity, and to deprivation, pogroms, to enable him to see what you see.
During the mission full with dangerous adventures you tour with Uri the mediterranean towns, meet people living in the days of Jesus, and in the meantime you do not even realise how much you have learned by the end. In fact you learn everything from the book: philosophy, astrology, geography, matematics-chemistry-medical science, joinery and glass blowing… Nevertheless nobody can feel like sitting at school desk, you’d rather feel like rushing through a world, which is more exciting than any science fiction.
Uri’s adversities seem to predict Jewish fate.
